I cannot save a file opened through the Android file picker.

The Android file picker does not always permit files to be opened with write permissions. To make a file editable, use the Open command from the Simple Text Editor menu.

The app is exploring better solutions for this limitation, but this is the current workaround.

How does spell checking work?

Spell checking enables Android keyboard suggestions and autocorrect in the editor. The exact behavior depends on Android, your active keyboard, keyboard settings, and installed languages.

Simple Text Editor does not bundle its own dictionary or custom spell-checking engine.
